OUR STORY

After noticing that the once in a lifetime alignment of Blues, Lindy-hop, Tea-dances and kick-ass bands was going to occur on an auspicious weekend in November, the Lindy-Hop Sheffield (LHS) volunteers bravely sprang into action to unite these great institutions and raise money for some fantastic charities.

For more information on Green City Blues, Sunday Tea-dance or Lindy Hop Sheffield, see our Facebook pages.

Movember

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of Movember is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Each Mo Bro must begin on November 1st with a clean shaven face, and must grow and maintain a moustache for the whole month of November. The funds raised in the UK are directed to programmes run directly by Movember and their men’s health partners, Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute of Cancer Research.

Shelter

Founded in 1966, Shelter was founded in England by the Reverend Bruce Kenrick, who was horrified by the state of the tenements round his Notting Hill parish. They believe that “there are simply not enough decent and affordable homes for people who need them and there is not enough good advice and support for those fighting to keep their homes”. Over the last 50 years, Shelter have given this advice and support, and have changed people's lives by supporting vulnerable families most at risk of homelessness, helping them understand their housing rights, and avoiding eviction or repossession. They also work to drive the issues of homelessness and bad housing onto the national agenda.
